Sony Advertiser Site Touts “Series of Original Shows” for PlayStation Network

As TheSixthAxis noted earlier today, an advertiser-oriented site for the PlayStation Network now lists “Original Series” among its ad opportunities.

“From the #1 studio worldwide, Sony Pictures, comes a series of original shows ranging from comedy to reality to sports,” the blurb reads. “PlayStation Productions is dedicated to bringing high quality, professionally produced content to the PlayStation Network. Sponsorship and product integration opportunities are available upon request.”

Sound familiar? It might if you saw (or read our account of) Sony’s press conference at E3 this year, where Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton hinted that this was coming.

“I am happy to announce that Sony Pictures is hard at work on a brand new original programming plan and content that will be available exclusively on PlayStation Network and PlayStation 4,” Lynton said at the time. “We look forward to sharing more details in the near future.”

Sony tried this once before with Qore, a monthly gaming-focused online magazine for the PS3 that included video content and ran for four years. The blurb and synergy with Sony Pictures makes it sound as though the new shows might be more TV-esque, an initiative in which Microsoft has said it is also interested.

A PlayStation representative said, “We don’t have any additional information regarding the original series at this time.”
