Motorola Hits Redial After Website Glitches Hang Up $349 Moto X Cyber Monday Deal
Google’s Motorola unit thought it had a winner on its hands with a Cyber Monday deal offering its flagship Moto X for $349, unlocked and without a contract, via the company’s Moto Maker customization site.
However, due to website glitches, the promotion never really got off the ground, though the company did offer some cut-rate deals on the developer edition of the device. Motorola said it will offer the same price on the Moto X starting at noon ET on Wednesday, and again at noon ET next Monday.
“Sorry we left you hanging today,” Motorola said on its Twitter account. “We want to make it up to you with 2 days of price promos on Wed and Mon. We’ve added more devices too.”
That was followed up late Monday by an apology note from CEO Dennis Woodside, who said the company both underestimated demand and failed to sufficiently test the site.
“While some orders were filled, many customers tried all day to place their orders, unsuccessfully,” Woodside said. “Customers were left frustrated.”
The company said that twice as many devices as previously planned would be made available, though it didn’t specify that number.
