Confirmed: Google Grabs Meebo

As tipped by Liz Gannes last month, Google has indeed acquired Meebo, which in its current incarnation is making tools that allows users to create interest profiles and publishers to increase user engagement. The price was not revealed, but was reportedly in the $100 million neighborhood. The Meebo team will be folded into the ever-growing Google+ social structure.

Meebo Buys Psychographic Targeter Mindset Media

Mountain View, Calif.-based Meebo, the Web toolbar maker, has acquired a New York City-based start-up called Mindset Media, which specializes in psychographic targeting for brand advertising. The company said the acquisition will help with its expansion of advertising products. Twelve members of the Mindset team will be joining Meebo, while two who work in business development will not. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Meebo Finishes Series D at $27.5M

The content-sharing platform Meebo has completed its latest round of funding, the one we broke the news on last month. As reported previously, Khosla Ventures led the round, but now the total has been raised to $27.5 million from $25 million.

Meebo has nearly completed a $25 million round of funding led by Khosla Ventures, with Khosla partner Gideon Yu becoming a board observer. This is the Web-sharing toolmaker’s Series D round, and will be announced by Khosla in a speech at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco this afternoon. Existing backers such as Sequoia Capital and Draper Fisher Jurvetson are also participating in the round, which brings Meebo to total funding of more than $60 million.

Meebo Foursquarifies the Web with Check-ins

Meebo on Tuesday plans to announce an update to its popular Meebo Bar (which is used on this Web site, and many others, to make it easier for users to share content). The goal is to help users discover new Web sites (kind of like StumbleUpon) and become loyal to them by using a check-in system (kind of like a virtual Foursquare).

This Saturday, BoomTown gassed up the Mini and motored on down to Facebook’s newest building for a Developer Garage and Hackathon, which the social networking giant did in partnership with Girls in Tech.
