California Apple Store Could Let the Sun Shine In

Not a spaceship, but still fun to look at, at least for people who like to look at renderings of proposed Apple stores: Here are a couple, showing what appears to be a proposed location on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade, featuring a “transparent glass ceiling.”

As Curbed (via MacRumors) notes, a permit request to Santa Monica’s planning commission doesn’t identify the retailer that wants to build this thing, but it sure looks a whole lot like a showcase Apple store.

Bonus for whatever store’s employees do end up working here: “Secure bicycle parking” in the basement. If you’re into that kind of thing.

The best and brightest are usually put to work on optimisation. … They will then go forward and solve the inefficiencies, and that’s where 99% of most energy is spent on. But, at some point you run out of room to improve things, and that’s when you have to step aside and ask, can we make it different?
