Hollywood Loses SOPA Story

The entertainment industry moved to counter growing opposition to antipiracy bills that seemed certain to be laws just weeks ago. But its efforts appeared to have little effect as a number of congressional leaders dropped their support for the legislation.

Several Republican senators, including Orrin Hatch of Utah, John Cornyn of Texas and Marco Rubio of Florida, said Wednesday they couldn’t support the legislation in its current form.

    While it is heartening to see so many people contact Congress to voice their opposition to these bills, it is equally concerning that our representatives are so misguided and out of focus, not to the will of the people, but to the needs of the people. Too many congressman were poised to sign off on legislation of what was clearly a power grab for one small (and in the grand scheme of life), meaningless industry. 

    Perhaps more of these issues need to have oversight of the people, rather than babysitting of the lobbyists.
