Judge Denies Injunction Against Dish’s Ad Skipper
A U.S. federal court judge Wednesday denied Fox Broadcasting’s effort to shut down an ad-skipping and automatic recording feature created by Dish Network Corp. for its new “Hopper” digital video recorder, both companies said.
Judge Dolly Gee of the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, found that Fox didn’t demonstrate sufficient damages from the features to justify a preliminary injunction, the companies said. The ruling enables Dish to continue marketing and offering its Hopper DVR along with the ad-skipping feature, dubbed “Auto Hop,” to its 14 million satellite TV customers.
