Samsung: Settle With Apple? Hell, No!
Maybe, but not archrival Samsung, which says that just because HTC managed to resolve its long-running legal dispute with Apple doesn’t mean that it’s interested in doing the same.
Asked today if Samsung might follow the trail blazed by its Taiwanese competitor, J.K. Shin, head of Samsung’s mobile and IT division, said, “We have no such intention. … HTC may have agreed to pay 300 billion won (US$276 million) to Apple, but we don’t intend to [negotiate] at all.”
Bold words from a company that was ordered by a U.S. jury in August to pay Apple $1.05 billion in damages for illegally copying some features from the iPad and iPhone. Samsung, of course, has appealed the ruling. And at this point, it has little to gain from a settlement. It’s slugging it out with Apple in more than 10 countries. And with this battle dragging on, it can continue selling its allegedly infringing devices for some time.
