New Apple iPad 3G Orders to Ship by May 7

Good news for folks who missed the pre-order deadline for the 3G version of the iPad: Apple has finally given the device a firm ship date, Friday, May 7. That’s three days before the company plans to announce international pricing for the iPad and begin taking online pre-orders for the device, which it has delayed selling abroad because of high demand.

Incidentally, if you’re among the early adopters who pre-ordered an iPad 3G when it first went on sale, you’re still likely to receive yours by late April. According to an email message Apple (AAPL) sent out this morning, the company still intends to ship pre-orders by the end of this month, as promised.

To Our Valued Apple Customer:

Thank you for your recent order of the magical and revolutionary iPad 3G.

We would like to confirm that your order will be shipped in late April as communicated at the time you placed your order. You will receive a confirmation notice when your order has shipped.

You can get up-to-date information about your order, including shipping status and tracking number, at Apple Order Status

Thank you for choosing Apple.

Sincerely,
The Apple Store Team

I think the NSA has a job to do and we need the NSA. But as (physicist) Robert Oppenheimer said, “When you see something that is technically sweet, you go ahead and do it and argue about what to do about it only after you’ve had your technical success. That is the way it was with the atomic bomb.”
