It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll), Android
Android may be outselling Apple’s iPhone in the United States, but it has a long way to go before it rivals the device in market penetration (see charts; click to enlarge).
In the U.S., AdMob’s latest Mobile Metrics Report shows 10.7 million iPhones (or 18.3 million iPhone OS devices, e.g. the iPhone, iPod touch and the iPad) on its mobile ad network during April, versus 8.7 million phones running Google’s (GOOG) Android OS.
Worldwide, AdMob shows 27.4 million iPhones (or 40.8 million iPhone OS devices) in its network, versus 11.6 million Android devices.
So while Android is making some impressive gains against Apple (AAPL), it is far outnumbered by the iPhone. For now, anyway.
