Our Tablet Will Be Number One Plus? Way to Overpromise, HP.
The tablet market will soon have a new gold-standard, a device that will unseat the iPad as market leader and make Apple’s first mover advantage in the space moot.
Hewlett-Packard’s forthcoming TouchPad.
Speaking at a press conference in Cannes, Eric Cador, senior VP of HP’s Personal Systems Group in the Europe, Middle East and Africa, said the TouchPad will not only emulate the company’s success in the PC market, it will surpass it.
“In the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP’s products from our competitors, we became number one,” Cador said according to the Telegraph. “In the tablet world, we’re going to become better than number one. We call it number one plus.”
That’s a bold statement to make, particularly in the increasingly competitive tablet market which has seen lots of big talk, with very few products to match.
As well-intentioned as his remark may have been, Cador’s just set HP up for an overpromise and underdeliver situation of Balsillian proportion–unless, of course, the TouchPad performs as he claims it will.
