Alibaba’s Jack Ma On Yahoo Talks, Groupon Clones and His Advice for Carol Bartz

Alibaba’s CEO Jack Ma tried hard not to turn his entire interview at the D conference to be all about the company’s ongoing negotiations with Yahoo about the fate of Alipay.

“This is like peace talks at the United Nations,” he said. “It’s impossible that the board doesn’t know what was going on…Someone has to take responsibility to move ahead.”

Other topics Ma was willing to address in his interview with Kara Swisher this afternoon, ranged from what it’s like to do business in China when thousands of competitors crop up overnight, which is an issue that Groupon is facing, to a few words of advice for Yahoo’s Carol Bartz on how she could turn around the ailing U.S. company.
