News Corp. Swaps Out Board Members: Accel’s Breyer In, Perkins, Cowley Out

News Corp. is bringing in a famous venture capitalist to its board of directors, and saying goodbye to another one: Accel’s Jim Breyer will join the media company’s board in October, and Kleiner Perkins founder Thomas Perkins will leave, along with fellow board member Kenneth E. Cowley. Perkins and Cowley are considered two of News Corp.’s “independent” board members, though that designation has been widely criticized in the wake of the PhoneGate hacking scandal. News Corp. also owns this Web site.
