Android Phones, Apple’s Tablets Serving Up Tons of Ads

In yet another indication of how the iPad still rules the tablet roost, the Apple tablet accounted for 97 percent of all ads shown on such devices.

Overall impressions served by iPads were up 450 percent from a year ago, according to a quarterly study from Millennial Media.

On the phone side, Android is proving a far tougher competitor, with Google’s operating system now serving up 56 percent of mobile ads on connected devices, double the figure for Apple’s iOS. Though Apple’s iPhone is still the single largest ad target, Android devices also accounted for 15 of the top 20 devices in Millennial’s rankings.

Among specific Android hardware makers, Taiwan’s HTC has seen its number of ad impressions double from a year earlier, while China’s Huawei is serving up more than triple the number of ads it was a year earlier.
