Hague: Cultural Differences No Excuse to Dilute Online Rights
The U.K. Foreign Secretary has issued a strongly worded rebuke to China and other regimes, saying cultural differences were not an excuse “to water down human rights.”
William Hague told the delegates at the London Cyber Conference that there were no excuses for curtailing rights.
“Human Rights are universal. Cultural differences are not an excuse to water down human rights, nor can the exploitation of digital networks by a minority of criminals or terrorists be a justification for states to censor their citizens.”
