Apple’s “Samsung Didn’t Copy Us” Ad Campaign Postponed
Looks like Apple will not be required to publicly recant its claim that Samsung copied the design of the iPad — for the time being, anyway. A London court today granted Apple’s request to postpone the order until October, when the company will have a chance to appeal it.
Issued earlier this month by Judge Colin Birss, the order requires Apple to post to its Web site and a number of British newspapers a notice explaining that a U.K. court has found that Samsung’s Galaxy tablets do not infringe the iPad’s design. Specifically, Apple was to link to Birss’s order from the front page of all its EU Web sites for a year and publish notices in the the Financial Times, the Daily Mail, the Guardian, Mobile Magazine and T3 magazine “in a font size no small than Arial 14 on a page earlier than page 6.”
A humiliating blow for Apple and one that the company immediately protested, arguing the order essentially forces it to advertise for a rival. Now that the order has been stayed, Apple will have the chance to argue that point further this fall, without having to buy ad space in those U.K. publications first.
