Mobile Payments Come to New York City Taxicabs Via VeriFone’s Way2ride App

VeriFone, one of the two companies that processes credit card transactions in New York City taxicabs, has launched a mobile payments app that lets riders pay with their smartphones. The app, Way2ride, is free to download, and will run on iOS and Android smartphones. Currently, the three e-hail apps that are part of a test pilot in New York City don’t offer e-payments in the New York market, as they’ve been required to use either VeriFone or Creative Media Technologies as the payments processor. VeriFone said it plans to offer Way2ride throughout its network of 70,000 payment-enabled taxis around the world.
