Nokia’s Lumia 1020 Gets a Permanent Price Cut, Now $199 at AT&T, Microsoft Stores

Next to its 41-megapixel camera, one of the most notable details about the Lumia 1020 was its hefty price tag.

AT&T introduced the phone a couple months back at $299, with a new two-year contract. Though not unheard of, that is a starting price that puts it out of consideration for many buyers accustomed to paying no more than $199, even for a high-end Android or iPhone.

On Friday, Microsoft announced that the phone would now be selling for $199 at AT&T and Microsoft stores. Microsoft is going a step further for a limited time, throwing in the camera grip that normally sells for an extra $79.

The move puts the Lumia 1020 on an even footing with a number of other devices. Plus, by making the move this week, they avoid the appearance of cutting the price in response to Apple’s expected announcement next week of a new iPhone.

Meanwhile, for those looking for a bigger screen, notorious Twitter leaker @evleaks has posted a picture of what is expected to be the first Windows Phone Phablet, the large-screen 1080p Lumia 1520.
