Ray Dolby’s Passion Led to Better Sound Quality Across Industries
Ray Dolby was an inventor whose passion for better sound influenced the evolution of several industries. Mr. Dolby, who died Thursday at age 80, was the man behind such widely used technologies as noise reduction in tape recordings and high-end movie sound.
In 1965, he founded San Francisco-based Dolby Laboratories whose technologies have been widely used by consumer-electronics companies, content makers and theater owners.
