YouTube Grabs a Microsoft Vet for Big Product Job

Christian KleinermanYouTube has a billion users who watch more than six billion hours of video a month and upload 100 hours of video a minute.

Keeping all of that going is a pretty big engineering job. Here’s some high-level help for that: Christian Kleinerman, a 13-year Microsoft veteran who started working at Google’s site this week.

Kleinerman hasn’t updated his LinkedIn profile, but sources said he’s now director of product management at YouTube, tasked with keeping the site’s infrastructure humming.

At his last posting at Microsoft, Kleinerman headed up the company’s data-warehousing group, where he oversaw 120 employees.

Meanwhile, YouTube recently reshuffled other parts of its org structure, in a move that gives content czar Robert Kyncl more authority on the business side. Kyncl and product head Shishir Mehrotra now essentially co-manage the site, but still report up to YouTube boss Salar Kamangar.
