Like Last Year’s Kindles, This Year’s Kindles Also the Best-Selling Kindles Ever

As tiresomely reliable as November’s Black Friday sale is Amazon’s reminder that it sells lots of Kindle tablets and e-readers during the annual consumer binge.

And so today we have yet another silly press release from the retailer announcing that — just like last year and the year before it — sales of the Kindle portfolio over the holiday shopping weekend were the best ever.

And, just as in years past, that assertion arrives unsupported by any hard numbers, but propped up with plenty of fatuous bloviation about Amazon’s excitement over this redundant and entirely empty milestone, eager customers waiting to unwrap their gifts and oh my god! the holiday season is just getting started.

Of course, as we all well know, assertions like these are utterly meaningless without numbers to back them up, just as we all well know that next year’s Kindle portfolio will also be the best-selling Kindle portfolio ever — whether Amazon sells two Kindles or two billion. And yet come December 2014 you can be certain that Amazon will be sure to announce that consumers are purchasing more Kindle Fire tablets and Kindle e-readers than ever before, without actually saying how many.
