In a rare move for any executive, Square CEO Jack Dorsey has returned about 10 percent of his stake — or about three percent of all company shares — back to the company. The move, which Fortune reported this morning, will expand the pool of shares that Square can dole out to current and new employees, whether they come through normal hiring or acquisitions.News Byte

Square this morning announced the release of its new Square credit- and debit-card reader, available now on Squareup.com and in the new year at partnering retail stores. The company said the new reader is almost half as thin as the previous one and should result in fewer swiping errors, while becoming compatible with more devices.News Byte

Square announced on Tuesday that it had acquired the team behind Viewfinder, a New York-based social startup. The Viewfinder team will focus on seller initiatives from Square’s New York offices, and will work to triple the size of Square’s engineering team over the next year.
