AT&T to Offer New Gaming Platform on Android Phones

AT&T will offer a new social gaming platform on its Android phones, as the company invests more heavily in the Google operating system in the wake of losing its exclusive hold on Apple Inc.’s iPhone.

The carrier will partner with the OpenFeint video game network, a social gaming community that allows users to play each other across different operating systems. The OpenFeint community allows users to post high scores, have multi player competition and chat while playing games. It also provides a platform for game developers to create content.

The company says it has 65 million registered users and 4,500 games, including the popular Fruit Ninja, available on Android phones and the iPhone. The company also said it has a community of 15,000 developers working to create new games through the platform.

About Voices

Along with original content and posts from across the Dow Jones network, this section of AllThingsD includes Must-Reads From Other Websites — pieces we’ve read, discussions we’ve followed, stuff we like. Six posts from external sites are included here each weekday, but we only run the headlines. We link to the original sites for the rest. These posts are explicitly labeled, so it’s clear that the content comes from other websites, and for clarity’s sake, all outside posts run against a pink background.

We also solicit original full-length posts and accept some unsolicited submissions.
