Apple’s iTunes Match Still Sitting on Launchpad

Apple’s promised iTunes Match launch date of “late October” has come and gone with no sign of the new service, which allows people to remotely access the songs in their private collections, regardless of whether or not they were obtained through iTunes.

Though not an anomaly by any means, it is fairly unusual for Apple to miss a hard launch date that it has so publicly set. So there’s clearly a good reason for the delay. The most obvious: Apple won’t launch the service until it’s got it right and it hasn’t quite got it there yet.

The company did not respond to requests for comment or an updated ETA.

I think the NSA has a job to do and we need the NSA. But as (physicist) Robert Oppenheimer said, “When you see something that is technically sweet, you go ahead and do it and argue about what to do about it only after you’ve had your technical success. That is the way it was with the atomic bomb.”
