Trained Monkeys Fix YouTube Outage

YouTube had an outage on Monday, and its jokey error message (“A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation”) had some users wondering if it had been hacked. A spokesperson for the video site said, “Some people encountered errors, or a slower than normal experience on YouTube today. We worked quickly to address the issue and fixed the problem. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this caused.”

Trading Halted in Nasdaq Securities

The outage — due to an unexplained technical issue — saw a large chunk of the U.S. stock market effectively come to a standstill at midday, freezing prices in stocks, exchange-traded funds and options listed on Nasdaq and prompting other trading venues to stop trading those securities.


Some Apple Services Back Up After Temporary Outage

The outage lasted almost 11 hours.

News Byte Suffers Web Outage went down for at least 30 minutes on Wednesday afternoon. The site was back up by around 3:35 pm ET. Other sites owned by Amazon, such as and, seemed to be unaffected. And Netflix, which runs on Amazon Web Services, also seemed to be running smoothly during that time. Amazon spokespeople haven’t yet responded to phone calls and email messages seeking more information.
